Index to Naturalization papers of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Detroit, 1837-1903 and U.S. Circuit Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Detroit, 1837-1903: This index, compiled by Loretto Dennis Szucs, pertains to the original records now in the custody of the National Archives and Records Administration-Great Lakes Region, Chicago Ilinois (7538 South Pulaski Road, Chicago, IL 60629-5898). The naturalizations represent only those which were processed in the two Federal Courts in Detroit and therefore represent only a portion of the naturalizations that took place in the Michigan courts. Other naturalizations took place in local county courts. The Detroit naturalizations represented in this index are not confined to residents of Detroit and Wayne County, Michigan, but include a large number of individuals who were residents of the counties that surround Wayne County as well. While most of the original naturalization records contain sparse biographical information, there are some extraordinary exceptions.
